Find the right trading journal import for your platform or prop firm
Last reviewed November 5, 2026
This is for futures traders who want their trades in a journal without retyping them. UpSkalr's broker import reads one specific file from each of three platforms: Tradovate, TopstepX and Rithmic's R|Trader Pro. Everything else gets a date and P/L file. Pick your page below for the steps, or use the table to see what your route brings in.
What each route imports
| Route | File to export | Comes in | Doesn't come in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tradovate | Fills report, CSV | Every fill, rebuilt into trades, with the commission column taken off | Stops. Performance and Orders are refused |
| TopstepX | Orders tab, CSV, one per account | Every fill, plus stops and targets for an estimated R. Fees from an editable cost table | Exact stop history, since only a final stop price exports. The Trades export is refused |
| Rithmic | R|Trader Pro's Order History, CSV | Every fill for every account on the login. Fees from an editable cost table | Stops. Fill History isn't read |
| Any other platform | Your own CSV with Date and P/L | P/L by day or by trade | Fills, prices, fees and the Execution section |
| NinjaTrader | Not read directly | Use your connection's file: Tradovate Fills or R|Trader Pro's Order History | NT8 Executions and Orders exports |
The prop firm pages exist because the same file behaves differently depending on the firm's rules and the platform you bought. Apex's WealthCharts accounts and MFFU's dxFeed platforms land in the "any other platform" row.
The same five steps on every broker route
- Export whole trading days that start and end flat, as a CSV, from the file named above.
- In UpSkalr, open Settings, Data Management, Add Historical Data, then
Import from Tradovate, TopstepX or Rithmic. - Drop in your files. Each import takes one broker, and several files are fine.
- Link each broker account to a sub-account. The link stays for later imports.
- Check the review screen. Nothing saves until you click
Import.
What UpSkalr does and doesn't do
It's file upload only, with no auto-sync. Broker import reads eight contracts (ES, MES, NQ, MNQ, YM, MYM, RTY, M2K), so a CL or GC trader gets a partial import. After an import, total P/L, the sub-account split, direction, instrument, times and date are read-only, while your notes and grades stay editable. A day with any manual entry is never overwritten, and re-importing can't double count a fill.
Copied trades count once: entries on the same contract, direction and date within 10 seconds become one trade split across sub-accounts. A copier lagging several seconds across back-to-back trades can pair a leg with the wrong trade, though day totals stay right. There's no firm rule tracking. On your net figures, check one day against your dashboard on any route.
The reasons to bother are what the record feeds: a contract ladder from your own risk rule, which you can try in the next contract calculator, Avyras coaching from your logged trades, and a trading psychology course with a free first level. For the sizing question itself, read when to size up futures contracts. For floors, there's a free prop firm drawdown calculator. If you're still comparing tools, start with the futures journal comparison.
Common mistakes
- Following another journal's guide and bringing the wrong file. The names look alike, and UpSkalr refuses Trades, Performance and Tradovate's Orders.
- Buying a plan for fill-level stats on a platform that only gets the P/L route.
- Reading a drawdown estimate as your firm's floor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does UpSkalr work with my broker or prop firm?
If your platform is Tradovate, TopstepX or Rithmic's R|Trader Pro, you get a broker import with fills. Anything else gets a CSV with a date and a P/L column, or manual entry. That's a much smaller record, so check the table before you sign up.
Does any of this sync automatically?
No. Every route is a file upload, so new trades need another export or a manual entry. There's no connection to your broker login.
Does UpSkalr track prop firm rules?
No. A firm preset sets a drawdown amount and whether it's fixed, and shows the rest as text. UpSkalr doesn't calculate consistency, track profit targets or count payout days, and its drawdown view is an end-of-day estimate. Your firm's dashboard is the truth.
