Free Calculators for Futures Traders

Three calculators for the questions that decide whether a trader stays in the game: how much room you've got, how big this trade can be, and when your risk rule allows the next contract. They're free and don't need a login.

Why three calculators and not one

Each one answers a different question, in the order you'd ask it at your desk. The floor comes first, because it's the number that ends the account. Most traders look at their balance and feel fine, while the number that matters is how far the balance sits above the floor.

Then comes the trade in front of you. Your stop and your risk budget decide your size, and that answer can be zero. The longer question comes last: when does the account itself justify more contracts? Answer that one with a rule you wrote down, because the urge to add size tends to show up right after a good week. The position sizing guide goes deeper on why, and the free process over P&L lesson covers the habit behind it.

One account through all three

Setup: A prop firm account: $50,000 start, $2,000 end-of-day trailing drawdown, $51,400 best close, $50,900 balance. That's $900 of cumulative profit.

  1. Step 1, the drawdown calculator: the floor is $51,400 - $2,000 = $49,400, and the room is $50,900 - $49,400 = $1,500. It locks at a $52,000 high-water mark, $600 away.
  2. Step 2, the position size calculator: size from the $2,000 drawdown, not the $50,000. 1% is $20. On MNQ at $2 a point, a 10-point stop costs $20 a contract, and $20 / $20 = 1 contract. A 20-point stop costs $40, and $20 / $40 = 0.5, which rounds down to 0. That trade gets skipped.
  3. Step 3, the next contract calculator: with 1% risk, a 2% target, a 3% daily limit and Conservative stops, the base is the larger of $2,000 and $900, so $2,000, and the plan says 1x MNQ. It also warns that a 10-point stop is under the 24.3-point Conservative minimum, because $20 won't pay for anything wider. 2x MNQ starts at $9,720 of cumulative profit, and $9,720 - $900 = $8,820 still to earn.

Result: $1,500 of room, 1x MNQ on a 10-point stop, and $8,820 to go before the plan adds a contract.

These read one moment. The app follows the account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an account to use these calculators?

No. They run in your browser with no login, and nothing you type gets saved or sent anywhere.

Which calculator should I start with?

On a prop firm account, start with the drawdown calculator, because room left limits everything else. Then size the trade with the position size calculator. The next contract calculator is for the longer question of when your balance and risk rule allow more size.

Do these work if I'm not at a prop firm?

The position size and next contract calculators both work on a personal account. The drawdown calculator is built for firm rules, though you can use it to track a personal floor you've set for yourself.

Educational tool, not financial advice. These numbers come from what you type. They don't include slippage, commissions or your firm's exact rules, and a stop can fill worse than the price you set. Trading futures involves substantial risk of loss.
